“the canon is the canon, and the canon is the six films that exist.” ~Simon Kinberg

"Right now there aren't any plans to include Clone Wars characters like Ahsoka or Rex in the new series." ~ Dave Filoni

I am wondering if there is an implied notion that the only canon will be what Disney wants.

The EU is apparently going to be a source for "inspiration" rather than any kind of gospel.  Plus, I had noticed in several blogs and interviews with Filoni that when asked about future stories of Clone Wars characters, he has cryptically commented that this would be a chance for fans to "Write the stories themselves".

Maybe my imagination is unjustified in assuming, but I'm beginning to wonder if Disney is scrapping Clone Wars from any sort of official canon as well as the EU.  Dave has stated that there will be no connection between Clone Wars characters and Rebels, and there are no hints of any stories being concluded except with the Darth Maul Arc in Dark Horse comics.

I could be wrong or maybe just jumping ahead of the horse and carriage with these assumptions, but it's beginning to feel like Clone Wars is about to be shuffled off the official history.

IF it is true and TCW is declared non-canon, I can only imagine the good and bad implications this will have for fans.

Again, I am just thinking out loud and trying to surmise what it all is leading to.

On the plus side, it is a door opening for all kinds of fan fiction inspiration perhaps, something to be taken advantage of for those who were either unsatisfied by Lucas' vision with TCW, or those who loved TCW but now might never see the future adventures of their favorite characters like Ahsoka and Rex.

When I heard those news I started to become worried.
I can understand if the crew doesn't want to use characters from TCW if they have no use for them and don't want to shoe horn them in.

But to go and retcon the show(if it's true) it's kind of stupid IMHO. The show is not just another tie in cash in show. There was a lot of money and effort put in it and to go and retcon it because "it's secondary canon" it's pretty much a slap to the face to the people who worked on the show and the fans who invested in the show. Are they declaring it non-canon to satisfy the man children nostalgiatards(yes they exist) that didn't like the show? Is it because it's made by WB and Disney doesn't want to do anything with them?

I really hope this isn't true. But if it is then it really leaves a pure and true sour taste in the mouth.
